The Accelerated Master's Program

The Accelerated Master’s Program is a path for continuous study from the bachelor’s degree through a master’s level professional degree at the Tulane University Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Students in the Accelerated Master’s Program take graduate courses during their senior year that are applied to both the bachelor’s degree and master’s degree requirements. 

Students in the Accelerated Master’s Program begin graduate study in one of the following programs:

When to Apply

March 1 deadline – start Fall senior year
October 1 deadline – start Spring junior year (for students graduating a semester early)

- Must be an undergraduate at Tulane University
- Must have a 3.0 GPA

Courses

There are slight variations in how courses count for public health majors and minors and all other students. See the table below for a comparison.

Courses for MPH, MSPH, MPH&TM, and MHA  - Public Health Majors: Up to 12 credits of graduate courses that can be applied as electives towards the major
  - Public Health Minors: Up to 9 credits of graduate courses that can be applied as electives towards the minor
Students can take up to 12 credits of graduate courses in senior year that can be applied as general education credits.
Courses for MS DMAHStudents can take up to 9 credits of graduate courses in senior year. 3 of these can be applied as electives towards the major or minor; 3 can be applied as general education credits.Students can take up to 9 credits of graduate courses in senior year. 6 of these credits can be applied as general education credits. Students must obtain approval from their home department and school for credits to count towards their bachelor's degree.

Program Stipulations  

Students must complete all undergraduate requirements and graduate with a bachelor’s degree before moving on to full-time enrollment in the master's program.

Once students have been accepted into the Accelerated Master’s Program, they should meet with their graduate advisor during their senior year to create a study plan incorporating the goals and competencies of the master's degree program they intend to pursue.

Students can take a gap year (up to 3 years) before starting graduate school full-time. (Meet with financial aid advisor to discuss student loan deferment options.)

Students receive a 35% tuition discount on remaining graduate school tuition. (Discount does not apply to mandatory fees.)

Students can choose between an on-ground or online MPH, MSPH, or MPH&TM degree program after graduation. The online MHA and MS programs are not available to Accelerated Master's students. (Credits taken during senior year must be taken in person.)
