Student Ambassador: Josiah Davis

Why did you choose to attend Tulane?

Honestly because of admitted student day and meeting faculty and the students. It really sold me!

Why are you interested in volunteering as a student ambassador?

I currently work in the Office of Enrollment Management and Admissions, and I want to have the same positive impact on prospective students that the Student Ambassadors had on me when I visited WSPH. Their welcoming presence helped me feel confident that this was the right school for me, and I would love the opportunity to provide that same support and sense of belonging to others.

What's your dream job?

My dream job is to work in emergency preparedness and disaster management, potentially with FEMA or a similar organization. I would like to use public health research and policy to help communities—especially underserved communities—prepare for disasters, maintain access to healthcare, and recover more effectively. Ultimately, I want a career that allows me to travel, conduct meaningful research, and turn that research into policies that improve health outcomes.

What advice would you give someone thinking about getting a degree in public health?

My advice would be to find where your passions lie and build from there. Public health is a broad field with many different career paths, so identifying the communities, issues, or areas you care about most can help guide your degree and future career.

Any hobbies, interests, etc. outside of public health?

Working out, listening to music, and exploring new places.

What is the best thing about being a student at Tulane thus far?

The best thing about being a student at WSPH thus far has been how friendly and welcoming everyone is. The students, faculty, and staff have created a supportive environment that has made it easier for me to adjust, connect with others, and feel like part of the community.
