Mission Statement
This program is to provide an advanced doctoral-level academic degree and foundation in research methods and research training in Parasitology and Tropical Medicine.
Program Description
This program is designed for the individual interested in further investigations into tropical infectious disease related problems in academic, government and other organizations.
Program Competencies
Upon completion of the PhD in Tropical Medicine, the graduate will be able to:
- Plan and carry out research projects on various aspects of tropical diseases in the community.

- Plan, implement, and monitor programs for the control of tropical diseases in endemic areas.

- Analyze the results of their own research, as well as the research of others as reported in the literature.

- Direct an infectious disease diagnostic laboratory in a hospital, clinic or local, regional or national governmental health agency.

- Teach learned expertise, in both academic and professional meeting settings, to advanced students and peers. TRMD 7000,

PhD Degree Requirements
(1) Residency for one year or longer.
(2) Completion of ≥ 60 didactic credit hours (inclusive of credit transferred into the program).
(3) Successful completion of the Comprehensive Written Examination
(4) Successful completion of the Comprehensive Oral Examination
(5) Approval of the Dissertation Prospectus
(6) Approval by the candidate's Doctoral Studies Committee of the PhD Dissertation for the award of the PhD degree.
