Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine’s Eta Chapter of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health held its annual poster contest Friday, April 10. The poster contest promotes academic research among public health graduate students and offers them a chance to discuss their work with an audience of public health peers.

Three winners were selected from the posters submitted to the 2015 contest. Changwei Li, MPH, a PhD candidate in the Department of Epidemiology, won first prize for his poster detailing “Genome-wide Analysis of Gene-Sodium Interactions on Blood Pressure.” Kyle Moller, MPH, a PhD student in the Department of Global Environmental Health Sciences, won second prize for a poster outlining “Heavy metals and organic contaminants in soils from urban farms and gardens in New Orleans.” Olkan Ogunsakin, MD, MPH, a PhD candidate in the Department of Global Environmental Health Sciences, received honorable mention for a poster describing the “Assessment of ethanol effects on pulmonary anti-microbial peptide levels (Cathelicidin/LL-37) and vitamin-D metabolism.”

The students discussed their posters and research with fellow poster presenters, guests, and the faculty judges. The 2015 judges were Erik Svendsen, PhD, Department of Global Environmental health Sciences; Mai Do, MD, Department of Global Health Systems and Development; and Arti Shankar, PhD, Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics.
