Our distance learning and technical support staff have been assisting distance students for many years, and have a broad understanding of the distance learning environment, the technical needs of the Internet environment, and the challenges and needs of adult learners who desire to pursue a graduate education in addition to their professional and family lives.

LuAnn White, PhD, DABT

LuAnn White, PhD, DABT is a professor in the Department of Environmental Health in the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She serves as the director of the Center for Applied Environmental Public Health which includes the Center of Excellence in Environmental Public Health Tracking. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology. Dr. White's research focuses on the prevention of health effects in humans from environmental and occupational agents and environmental risk communication. She has conducted projects to identify exposure to environmental agents and assess and reduce the risk of subsequent health effects in communities. Public health interventions include behavioral aspects as well as the medical and scientific factors that influence exposure and affect health status.She has developed risk communication methods that address the prevention of environmental exposures as well as individual behavioral risk factors that influence chronic diseases. She has launched distance learning master's degree programs in Occupational Health and Safety Management, Occupational Health, and Industrial Hygiene.

Dr. Elizabeth James

Dr. Elizabeth James is Director Distance Learning "Tulane Center for Applied Environmental Public Health" and Clinical Associate Professor at Tulane.  Dr. James received her PhD from the Department of Biology in Biochemistry from the John Hopkins University.  Prior to coming to Tulane she spent 5 years developing and managing education and research programs for the federal government and industry.  She is experienced in the education of adult learners in traditional as well as online modalities.  Her current interests include development of immersive technologies for traditional and online education programs.  Dr. James is responsible for all aspects of the school of public health's distance learning program including: student advising, course development and planning, tracking of program metrics and reporting for the purpose of meeting accreditation and certification requirements.  Dr. James teaches general courses in Toxicology and basic sciences.

Erica B. Geary

Erica B. Geary, Senior Program Coordinator brings 20+ years of work experience in an academic setting.  Since her employment at Tulane University, she has held several  positions with the most recent being name the senior program coordinator for the distance learning program (CAEPH).  Ms. Geary serves as campus liaison for our students ensuring  that all necessary forms and documents are obtained, completed and made part of  the students record.   Ms. Geary is the key component for managing and tracking all distance learning program emails, exit surveys and adwords inquires.  She also confirms that all requirements have been met by the applicant prior to admissions.

Romeo R. Barrera, Senior Program Manager

Romeo R. Barrera is CAEPH'S Senior Program Manager. In this capacity, Mr. Barrera serves as the business and personnel administrator for all of CAEPH's research and distance learning activities. He also coordinates and maintains the Center's business strategy and assists with new project development. Mr. Barrera is the CAEPH liason for all Tulane departments.

April Jarrell

April Strain Jarrell, M. Ed, Instructional Designer

April Strain Jarrell, M. Ed, Instructional Designer, has 13 years of academic experience, which lead her to develop curriculum and teach courses for the St. Tammany Parish public school's Distance Learning program.  Her role at Tulane University's Public Health and Tropical Medicine Center for Environmental Public Health includes standardizing the program's Blackboard courses to make them user friendly, develop training materials, and provide support for instructors and students.  April is currently a School-to-Work Coordinator for St. Tammany Parish public schools where her primary area of focus is counseling and preparing students for their post-high school education or career decisions.
