Where will you be on the first two days of the 2006 Hurricane Season? How about joining national and regional experts who want to develop strong recommendations on the ways in which science, government and Gulf Coast communities can rebuild for better health, sustainability and disaster preparedness.
"These experts know that if they want to develop short-term and long-term recommendations that will work, they have to come here and learn from people living and working on the Gulf Coast," says Maureen Lichtveld, chair of environmental health sciences at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, which is hosting the event.
The Institute of Medicine and National Academies of Science are inviting experts and Gulf Coast residents to spend two days discussing issues as diverse as debris removal, waste disposal, local emergency planning, wetland restoration, safe home environments and the healthcare infrastructure. The meeting will result in short-term and long-term recommendations for use by policy makers, scientists and residents.
The meeting will take place June 1 and 2 in the Collins C. Diboll Auditorium of the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, 1440 Canal St., New Orleans.
