Two students in the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine received Fulbright-Hays grants for graduate students. Sarah Dobra, a student pursuing a master of public health degree in international health and development, received a research grant to study in Ecuador. Ian Mendenhall, a PhD student studying parasitology, received a grant to conduct research in Colombia.

Richard Watts, executive director of the Tulane
Center for Global Education, shepherds candidates in the process of applying for the Fulbright U.S. Study Program Grant, a highly competitive program for graduating seniors and graduate students. Watts also advises graduate students in language and area studies who are applying for Fulbright-Hays grants. Watts provides advice to each Tulane student who applies in order to refine the student’s research and personal statement.

The Fulbright Program, America’s flagship international educational exchange program, provides funding for U.S. citizens to study, teach or conduct research in more than 150 countries worldwide. Recipients are selected based on their academic or professional achievement and demonstrated leadership potential in their fields.

The Fulbright Program also provides funds for scholars from other countries to study in the United Sates. This academic year, Tulane hosts Fulbright recipient Ping Guo, a law professor at Dalian Maritime University in China, as he conducts research into the American legal system of compensation for ocean pollution damage.
