Personal Statement:
Daniel Bausch is a physician who is board-certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases with a master’s degree in public health and tropical medicine. He specializes in the research and control of tropical viruses. Dr. Bausch has extensive experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and Asia combating pathogens such as Lassa, Ebola and Marburg viruses, hantavirus, and the SARS coronavirus. He is the director of the Tulane Research and Training Program in the Mano River Union Region of West Africa (Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea) (http://www.sph.tulane.edu/manoriverlassa). Dr. Bausch also has a keen interest in the role of the scientist in promoting health and human rights and is a founding board member of the humanitarian organization Doctors for Global Health (http://www.dghonline.org).
