Living in HSM Our department is located on the 19th floor of the Tidewater Building on historic Canal Street. Class meetings and events are primarily held in our education center, which consists of state-of-the-art classrooms, conference rooms, a reference library and lounges, a full kitchen, a computer lab and many study areas. The Downtown campus houses the Tulane University Health Sciences Center (TUHSC), of which the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (SPHTM) is a part. Included in the Health Sciences Center are the Medical School and Deming Pavilion student housing. The Tidewater Building, where the Health Systems Management Department is located, is in the heart of the central medical community for the New Orleans regional area and the Central Business District (CBD). This medical community is comprised of Tulane Medical Center, LSU University Hospital (temporary Charity Hospital), and the LSU Medical Center. As New Orleans rebuilds,the medical district plans to add a brand new Veterans Affairs Hospital, a new Charity/LSU Hospital, a New Orleans Bioinnovation Center, and the New Orleans Cancer Center over the next several years. Just blocks away are the famed French Quarter, Aquarium of the Americas, IMAX theater and Mississippi River. The campus is also located directly on the streetcar line, where one can catch a ride on the oldest continuously operating streetcar line in the world. The streetcar can take students to the picturesque Tulane Uptown Campus, Audubon Park and Zoo, The New Orleans Museum of Art, City Park, and many sights in-between. Additional Learning Facilities The 12th floor of the Tidewater Building houses additional classrooms, a large computer lab, several student meeting rooms, and the financial aid office. The Student Government Association (SGA) office is located on the first floor. A cafe', large student lounge and vending machines are also located in this area. The Medical School is where the Rudolph Matas Medical Library is located as well as two additional computer labs. |
