Master of Medical Management (MMM)

The Tulane-Independent MMM track is designed for physicians assuming executive and leadership roles in the delivery of health services. Physicians applying to the Independent track complete all coursework through Tulane University.

What type of content is covered in the curriculum?

The MMM curriculum incorporates the knowledge, understanding, skills and values relevant to management and gives emphasis to the unique competencies required of physician executives in today's health care industry.

The MMM curriculum addresses the following broad content areas:

  • The health status of populations, determinants of health and illness, and factors influencing the use of health care and medical care services
  • The organization, financing, and delivery of health services
  • The role of accounting, finance, policy, and quantitative analysis in management
  • Positioning organizations within their business environment and managing these organizations for continued effectiveness
  • Interpersonal communication and leadership skills
  • Human resources management
  • Performance measurement, quality improvement, and information systems

How is the program structured?

The MMM program is delivered in an executive format that enables the physician to continue to work while completing the degree.  It is organized into five semesters.  The courses for the first semester will be delivered completely online via the internet.  The other semesters will include an on-campus module as well as online courses. 

Modules are held on Tulane's Health Sciences Center campus in the New Orleans' Central Business District (CBD).

What is the Tulane-Independent track schedule?

A new cohort is scheduled to begin August 31, 2009. Applications are currently being accepted for this cohort. The application deadline is July 1, 2009.

Tulane Independent Track ON-CAMPUS Modules Per Semester - Class of 2011

  • Fall 2009 Semester:          October 2-6, 2009 (4.5 days) 
  • Spring 2010 Semester:      February 6-10, 2010 (4.5 days)
  • Summer 2010 Semester:   June 12-16, 2010 (4.5 days)
  • Fall 2010 Semester:          October 2-6, 2010 (4.5 days)
  • Spring 2011 Semester:      January 29-February 3, 2011 (5.5 days)
  • Graduation:                       May 2011

What does the program cost?

Once you have been accepted into the MMM program, you are required to submit a commitement fee of $500, which will be applied to your first tuition bill. The fee should be made payable to "Health Systems Management" and mailed to:

The tuition cost for the Tulane Independent track is $36,000. This cost is inclusive of all assigned textbooks, course materials, CME credits, breakfast, lunch and snacks.

The program cost is subject to change. Whenever increases become necessary, the university will make every effort to keep them to a minimum.
