Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Health Systems Management is to develop managers and leaders for health services and public health organizations through excellence in education. To achieve this mission, the Department’s faculty disseminates knowledge of health systems through teaching, writing, and professional practice. It advances knowledge of health systems through applied research and publication. Underpinning this mission is a Practitioner-Scholar Philosophy. This philosophy values using professional management and leadership experience as a guide in setting research and educational priorities. In striving to accomplish its mission, the Department recognizes the critical contributions of its stakeholders: the Department’s students, faculty, staff, alumni, health care providers, and University, as well as local, national, and international communities. Vision We in the Department of Health Systems Management will be nationally and internationally recognized for the development of executive leaders to serve the complex needs of the health services industry. Our faculty will be well known for the quality and relevance of their scholarship and use of their research and service activities to enliven and enrich the educational programs. We will foster a collaborative culture that is intellectually stimulating, emotionally supportive, professionally challenging, and that encourages innovation and risk-taking. The individual and team contributions of faculty, staff, students, and alumni will be consistently and publicly rewarded, recognized, and celebrated.
