Department of Global Biostatistics and Data Science

Biostatistics utilizes statistical reasoning and quantitative methods applied to public health, medical settings, and research. Biostatistics involves the collection and analysis of data and the interpretation, inference, and visualization of these results.  

The Department of Global Biostatistics and Data Science offers the following degrees:

  • The MSPH in Biostatistics is a professional degree that prepares students to collect, analyze, and interpret data and manage analytics in public health agencies and health care organizations. 
  • The MS in Biostatistics is an academic degree that provides a foundation in mathematical statistics and theory for research. 
  • The PhD in Biostatistics is an academic doctoral degree that prepares students to design health research studies and lead teams that can capture, manage, and analyze data, and then effectively disseminate results to health researchers and the general public.

Biostatistics is the choice for students who enjoy using data to solve problems in the areas of public health and medicine. The quantitative skills gained in this program are in high demand in healthcare organizations to analyze data for health outcomes related to medical treatment and procedures and in the assessment of effectiveness of public health programs.
