Student Research Opportunities in the Department of Epidemiology

Student Research Assistant

Research assistant needed to coordinate a study of periodontal (gum) disease among pregnant women at Lakeside Hospital. Duties will include: participant recruitment, interviewing, dental examination schedule, hospital medical chart review, and coordination of study logistics.

Opportunities for involvement in grant writing, data analysis, and manuscript publication. Could serve as the basis for a master's thesis or dissertation.  At least 20 hours per week, starting immediately and lasting at least one year.

Required qualifications: Organized, reliable, outgoing, and attentive to detail.  Excellent spoken and written English. Research experience or coursework in research methods or study design.  
Highly desired qualifications: Experience with research interviewing; experience with pregnant women; coursework in public health, maternal and child health, work-study award.

Student Research Assistant

Research assistants needed for studies of maternal and child health in New Orleans. Duties may include: participant recruitment, interviewing, child assessment, coordination of study logistics, and data entry. Opportunities for involvement in grant writing, data analysis, and manuscript publication. Could serve as the basis for a master's thesis or dissertation.  At least 10 hours per week.

Required qualifications:  Organized, reliable, and attentive to detail. Excellent spoken and written English. Research experience or coursework in research methods or study design.  Interest in maternal and child health and/or child psychology. Available during the summer.

Highly desired qualifications: Experience with research interviewing; coursework in public health, maternal and child health, or child development; previous work with families and young children; knowledge of Access, statistical software, and/or EpiInfo; a car (mileage will be reimbursed); work-study award.

Student Research Assistant

The Department of Epidemiology has an available position for a student research assistant on the Bogalusa Heart Study to work 20 hours per week.  Responsibilities include statistical data analysis, manuscript preparation and data management.
