Source: CDC Office of Minority Health | Mission The mission of the Center for Health Equality Research (CHER) is to improve the health of priority populations through multi-disciplinary, translational research. |  | CHER achieves this mission through: Supporting investigators in developing and performing clinically relevant, translational research related to eliminating health disparities Promoting collaborative research projects both within the Tulane University community and between our health care partners in the metropolitan New Orleans area. Evaluating the use of information technology as a tool for improving health outcomes and eliminating health disparities Creating an evidence-base to Inform health care providers and policy makers
The mission and goals of CHER are aligned with the Tulane University’s strategic plan(Tulane Renewal Plan 2005) which affirms its commitment to be “an institution that represents the best of the modern research university, anticipating and meeting national and societal needs as well as a university in service to the public; engaged in community activities that are innovative, of the highest quality and impact, and are integrated with our missions of learning and research.” | Center Activities - Development and maintenance of the CHER website to include:
- Searchable registry of investigators involved in health disparities research
- Opportunities for funding
- Templates of data, demographics and institutional structure to use in funding proposals
- Compilation of research abstracts
- Updates on emerging issues in health disparities research
- Provide on-going support in the preparation and submission of collaborative research grant proposals
- Conduct skill-building workshops and host research seminars
