Community Involvement

Since Hurricane Katrina, Tulane students have spearheaded countless community projects, contributing to the recovery effort in creative, inexhaustible, essential ways. The hurricane, its aftermath, and the existing problems it illuminated throughout the city all converge on tragedy. However, if they also bring a bright spot to the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, they represent potential moments of intense instruction and tools of supplementation for a curriculum designed to make devoted citizens into proper public health professionals.

The safe clean up of storm and rebuilding debris is a concern for Tulane graduate Caroline Whitehead, who has been part of a Environmental Protection Agency team that has distributed millions of flyers in the region about debris collection.
