| | | | | | Master's Degree Applicants The school maintains a rolling admission policy for graduate programs at the master's degree level, accepting qualified applicants during fall, spring, and summer terms until the actual start date of classes. All master's level applicants (including joint degree applicants*) should apply through SOPHAS (Schools of Public Health Application Service). Have questions about SOPHAS?
Although the school is on a rolling admissions policy, the Office of Admissions recommends that applicants meet the following priority deadlines for adequate financial aid and visa processing.
• March 15 for summer enrollment and MHA applicants for Fall • April 15 for fall enrollment • October 15 for Spring enrollment
* MD/MPH students please see "special program application instructions" below Requirements for admission to the master's programs - A complete SOPHAS application. Tulane does not require a separate application to our graduate programs.
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
- Official transcripts from all academic work (send one to SOPHAS, bring another to Tulane upon matriculation)
- A strong undergraduate record with a grade point average of 3.0 or better in the major subject
- Three letters of recommendation (send to SOPHAS electronically or by mail)
- GRE, MCAT or MCAT scores for appropriate programs (send to SOPHAS)
- Written statement of career goals (in SOPHAS application)
- Test of English As a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores for applicants from non-English speaking nations with a minimum score of 570-573 on the paper-based test, 230 on the computer based test, or 88-89 on the Internet-based test. (Send to SOPHAS)
- International students must provide certification of adequate funding or a letter of sponsorship from a recognized sponsoring agency in order to obtain a visa. Do not send any financial documentation to SOPHAS. Please contact Susan Cantrell at Tulane with any questions about international student visa processing. - International students are encouraged to send copies of their transcripts directly to Tulane to expedite review of their application
| | | | Doctoral Applicants
The deadline for doctoral applications is January 3. This is a priority deadline for scholarship and funding opportunities. Applications received after January 3 will continue to be processed and reviewed, but applicants applying after this date should be aware that available funding will be offered to students who made this deadline first. Students must submit their application, application fee, personal statement, letters of recommendation, official transcripts, GRE scores and TOEFL scores (for international applicants) by this date to SOPHAS (Schools of Public Health Application Service). A GRE score of 1200 is required for all doctoral applicants. Have questions about SOPHAS?
For adequate and timely processing, international applicants are encouraged to apply to SOPHAS by November 15. Domestic applicants are encouraged to apply to SOPHAS by December 1. Admissions decisions for doctoral applications will be made by the second week of March. Admission Requirements for Doctoral Programs
Applicants for the doctor of philosophy (PhD), doctor of public health (DrPH), and doctor of science (ScD) must have the following: - A complete SOPHAS application. Tulane does not require a separate application to our graduate programs.
- 30 completed credits of graduate level course work or current enrollment in a master’s degree program related to public health. (Send transcripts to SOPHAS)
- Grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for all graduate course work. Any exceptions must be made in writing by the departmental chair and approved by the associate dean for admissions and student affairs.
- Combined verbal and quantitative score of at least 1200 on the GRE. (Send test scores to SOPHAS)
- Test of English As a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores for applicants from non-English speaking nations with a minimum score of 570-573 on the paper-based test, 230 on the computer based test, or 88-89 on the internet-based test. (Send to SOPHAS)
- Recommendations from three individuals who are familiar with the academic and/or professional performance of the applicant. At least one recommendation must be from outside Tulane. (Send to SOPHAS either electronically or by mail)
- 500- to 1000-word written statement of career goals (in SOPHAS application)
- Interview with the chair or the chair’s designate for the department in which the applicant intends to study. This may be in person or by phone. In exceptional circumstances, the chair may waive this requirement.
- International students must provide certification of adequate funding or a letter of sponsorship from a recognized sponsoring agency in order to obtain a visa. | | | Special Program Application Instructions Applicants to the following programs should NOT use the SOPHAS application system. Please click on the program name for specific instructions. | | | 4 + 1 Program The Tulane 4 + 1 program combines a four year undergraduate degree in public health (BSPH) with a one year master's degree in public health (MPH or MSPH.) Applicants to this program should apply through the Undergraduate Office of Admissions for their BSPH degree and through SOPHAS for their MPH or MSPH degree. Tulane BSPH undergraduates seeking admission to the graduate program should apply in their senior year following the instructions above for Masters Degree Applicants.
