Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine encourages prospective students, former students, local professionals, and others to take classes in the school as a non-degree seeking "special student." Special students are permitted to enroll in two courses, or six hours, per semester upon approval from the Dean of Admissions.

To obtain special student status, please submit the following:

  • An application form (NOTE: letters of recommendation and official test scores are not required for special student status)
  • Official signed and sealed transcripts from previously attended institutions must be submitted to the Office of Admissions
  • A short statement that lists the courses you wish to take

If a special student decides that he/she would like to pursue a degree, an official SOPHAS application is required.
