The purpose of this project is to increase the utilization of research, analysis and information in support of improved health, nutrition, education and family planning strategies, policies and programs in Sub-Saharan Africa. Although significant gains have been made over the past 30 years in the health and human resources sectors, Africa faces a major challenge in the '90s to maintain this progress in the face of high population rates and scarce economic resources. African decision-makers and donor agencies together will have to make hard choices about sector priorities, policies and strategies, and service delivery models in order to maximize the impact of resources invested in the social sectors. This project is designed to improve the gathering, generation, synthesis and dissemination of information about common health problems and emerging social issues in Africa in an effort to improve the efficiency of the health and social sectors. Tulane is responsible for the research component of this project.
