Global Monitoring and Analysis

Dates: 1996-1997
Funding Source: UNDP
Tulane's Role: Prime contractor
Principal Investigator: John B. Mason, PhD

Tulane faculty are working with the United Nations to assemble and analyze data and prepare a report on the recent trends in the nutrition situation in the developing world. The work involves analysis of data from nearly 200 national surveys in the last 20 years, and from other sources, to assess changing trends and their causes, as well as projections of likely future prevalence of malnutrition. This report includes information on general and micronutrient malnutrition, by region and for displaced populations. Indicators include anthropometry, demography, food and economics, health, and caring capacity. Further analysis will aim to give insights for policymaking.
