FOCUS: global project

Dates: November 1995 - November 2000
Funding Source: USAID
Tulane's Role: Subcontractor (Prime: Pathfinder International; other Subcontractor: Futures Group International)
Countries: Global (current countries include Bolivia, Ghana, Kenya, Peru; 2-3 others to be determined)

The FOCUS project is contributing to USAID's global effort to improve the health and well-being of young adults. By working with governmental and non-governmental organizations, FOCUS intends to promote responsible sexual behavior, reduce exposure to sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV, and reduce the incidence of high risk pregnancies. In the initial phase, the program will analyze young adult health programs worldwide to learn from both successes and failures. Profiles of the status of young adult health in each focal country are being developed. The information derived from this initial phase, along with information generated through program evaluation and other types of studies, will provide the road map for structuring strategies for policy development, training and program implementation.
