Research Assistant Professor; Tulane University The Department of International Health and Development at Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine seeks to hire a faculty member in the research track at the Assistant Professor rank beginning January 2010. The position requires completion of a doctoral-level degree in public health or in one of the social sciences, and requires skills in advanced statistical analysis, data management, and scientific writing. The position is based in New Orleans, is non-tenure track, and is currently funded for one year. There is a possibility of renewal for up to two additional years if funds become available. The successful candidate will work on two NIH-funded projects that focus on the consequences of migration for a wide range of health-related outcomes. The Department is interdisciplinary and international in scope. Researchers from the fields of demography and reproductive health, biostatistics, epidemiology, psychology, health information systems, medical anthropology, public health, international development, and other relevant disciplines focusing on the policy and programmatic issues in improving health in global settings are encouraged to apply. The Department's research portfolio includes support from U.S. Agency for the International Development (USAID), Centers for Disease Control, and National Institute of Health, as well as from foundations. The successful candidate will work predominately on the project “Enhancing Strategic Information for Orphans and Vulnerable Children Programming in South Africa,” which is funded by USAID. This project focuses on providing data on the priority needs of OVC, lessons learned from interventions, as well as evidence concerning the effectiveness of program models. Applicants should have demonstrated expertise in quantitative methods and study design, and should possess a broad knowledge of the use of survey methodologies and analytical techniques for evaluating humanitarian programs. Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in a related discipline; either in biostatistics, psychology, sociology, social epidemiology or other social science or related international public health field. Applicants must have experience in advanced statistical analysis, evaluation studies and Sub-Saharan Africa. Priority will be given to applicants with experience working on activities related to PEPFAR or other HIV and AIDS care and support initiatives and those with a strong interest in children affected by AIDS. This is a non-tenure track position. The rank of the position will depend on the experience and will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. We seek candidates with a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, an interest in pursuing independent research, and substantial international public health experience.
