Arnedo “Ned” Agbayani is presently the head of the Animal Health Services Division of the Office of the City Veterinarian in Zamboanga, Philippines. He is responsible for activities and programs relative to animal disease monitoring and evaluation. In addition to being in charge of the implementation of plans regarding the prevention, control and eradication of animal diseases in the city, Ned also conducts information dissemination campaigns about common and emerging diseases that affect the local livestock and poultry industry. Presently, he is the designated focal person for rabies and is the one responsible in the conduct of plans and programs in the effective control and eradication of rabies in the city of Zamboanga. In addition, he is also the designated action officer on avian influenza (AI).  In that capacity, Ned is tasked with formulating strategies to prevent the entry of avian influenza into his region of the Philippines. Ned earned his degree at the College of Veterinary Medicine at University of the Philippines, 1983. He served as resource speaker in several seminars/workshops relative to Avian Influenza, Rabies and other emerging diseases in livestock and poultry in Zamboanga City. Before becoming the Chief of the Animal Health Services Division of the Office of the City Veterinarian in the City of Zamboanga, Ned was the Provincial Veterinarian of Sulu Province and the Chief of the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic and Feed Laboratory, under the Department of Agriculture, Region 9, Western Mindanao. Kokou “Happy” Agoudavi is the chief physician and director of St. Gothard Medical Center in Dedome in the health district of Amou, Togo. Kokou oversees medical care within St. Gothard Medical Center as well as health care management programs in his area. In the academic professional field, he has been a teaching assistant in anatomic pathology in the Medical and Pharmacy Faculty of Lomé.  He has been in charge of the pathology laboratory’s practices and has lectured to the third year medical students. During his Humphrey Fellowship year, Kokou will be studying public health policy and management and international health and development.  In addition to his studies, Kokou will develop basic skills in the implementing a disease registry so that he can take the lead in developing the national cancer register in his country. Kokou received his MD in Medicine from the University of Lomé, Togo. Dr. Agoudavi lectured in SPHU 101 "Epidemics, Revolutions and Response" an introductory public health class for Tulane undergraduates.  His presentation focused on the development of a FBO (faith-based organization) and NGO in Togo.  To see his slides click here.  To link to Dr. Kokou Agoudavi's latest presentation on Togo click here:

Working as a section chief at the Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau, Cai Chun organizes and collaborates with regional health departments and municipal professional organizations to implement disease and health monitoring, intervention and quality control in Shanghai, especially in occupational diseases, chronic diseases, community healthcare and school health. During her year with the Humphrey Fellowship, Chun will focus on public policy making and emergency preparedness in order to enhance her leadership in public health management. Chun has a master’s degree in public health from Fudan University and an MD from Shanghai Medical University, as well as a diploma about World Trade Organization affairs from the Shanghai Municipal Government. Since 2003, Youssouf Koita has worked for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Mauritania as the nutrition project officer. In this capacity, he assists the Government of Mauritania in the development of national nutrition policy aimed at improving the well-being of women and children under the Child Rights’ Framework.  He also provides overall leadership, direction and technical guidance to the multi-sectoral team in the development, implementation and monitoring of integrated plans of action to improve nutritional status of women and children in Mauritania. Youssouf has also provided technical support to the UNICEF/Niger office in Niamey, in order to support their iodine deficiency programs. As a result of these experiences, he was also called upon to provide technical assistance to UNICEF/Togo and UNICEF/Central Africa Republic for the design and implementation of UNICEF contribution to the national response to the nutrition emergencies that have affected both those countries. From 1999 to 2003, Youssouf was with UNICEF as Assistant to Health Project Officer, responsible for providing technical guidance and direction to Mauritanian Ministry Of Health and Social Affairs for planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Extended Program of Immunization. Youssouf began his career as technical advisor of a French NGO (ASI) in the Democratic Republic of Congo, responsible for providing vision and technical guidance for implementation, monitoring and management of Primary Care Health project in Bandundu district. Youssouf  received his DEA (Specialized Field Tertiary Education Diploma) with distinction in Human Nutrition with an emphasis on physiology and physiopathology of human nutrition from the  University of Paris in 1994. He also earned a DESS (Specialized Field of Tertiary Education Diploma) in Management of Public Health Project in Developing Environment from University of Bordeaux.  A world traveler, Youssouf enjoys visiting and learning from friends and making new contacts around the world. Benjamin “Ben” Aboagye Marfo was appointed as the TB referral clinician for the Eastern Region of Ghana in 1997. Difficult TB cases were referred to him for expert advice and management. In 2001, he was appointed as the Regional TB Manager.  In that position his coordination has had remarkable success.  Ben has successfully coordinated the management of TB patients at the community level (community TB care) and spearheaded the capacity building of health workers in the diagnosis and management of TB.  He has effectively coordinated the quality assurance of TB sputum microscopy. In 2003, Ben was appointed municipal Director of Health Services for New Juaben county, a position he holds today.  In that capacity he has effectively coordinated public health activities such as, Focused Ante-Natal Care, Mobile Laboratory Services at the sub-district level, Community Based and Health Planning Services (CHPS), and the District Pharmacy Concept.  Ben holds an MD (1989) and an MPH (2001) and has many certificates to his credit, the most notable being one in Applied Epidemiology which he obtained in 2004 at the Emory University SPH.  Ben has traveled to more than 40 countries and has immense rapport and experience with regards to dealing with people of different ethnic and racial backgrounds. Through the Notre Dame of Jolo College-Midwifery Department, Jolo Sulu, Philippines, Sitti is involved in the academic and community health programs/projects both for the students and the community partners. She has guided, assisted and taught students on health care and sociology. She has been working for community health programs Sitti has implemented community-based health programs for marginalized sectors of society to help them develop self-reliance and competencies for a total human empowerment in order to maximize active community participation and involvement as good citizens of the country. In this way, Sitti hopes that her programs will help to reduce maternal and child morbidity and mortality rates and improve the quality of health care services for the Filipino people and people of the world for genuine peace and development. To this end, Sitti is involved in peace building initiatives in her region of the Philippines through Notre Dame of Jolo College Peace Center. She is also involved in the Indigenous People’s Programs in the Philippines and has been a Philippine national volunteer under Volunteer for Information and Development Assistance program for health services in the Philippines. Sitti has earned diplomas in Graduate in Midwifery, Associate in Health Science Education and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Notre Dame of Jolo College, Jolo, Sulu, Philippines.

Sitti includes the following in her list of professional and volunteer activities:Nursing Attendant in the Holy Family Hospital, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, Philippines from 1988-1992
  • Program Officer of the Notre Dame of Jolo College-Community Extension Service in Conflict Management Program-Community Conflict over Natural Resources funded by The Asia Foundation with support from the United States Agency for International Development from 2004-2006.
  • Documentor on Barangay Development Plan--Participatory Research Approach of Peace and Development Community in 4 barangays in Sulu sponsored by the Government of the Philippines and the United Nation Multi-Donor Program in 2002.
  • Volunteer for the evacuees during the Military & Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) conflict incident in Sulu, Philippines in November 2001. 
  • Volunteer and conducted free medical mission among the Bajaus in Semporna, Sabah, Malaysia sponsored by Nippon Foundation through Mr. Wilfredo Torres III (Philippines) in May 2003.
  • Volunteer during the Free Meal Program for Elderly, Glide Memorial Church Community Programs in San Francisco, California, USA in November 2005.
