Dr. Bashir Ahmad Hamid is among the founders of CAF – a national NGO in Afghanistan – which serves almost two million Afghans and provides primary health care to the families. For five years he worked as the Director General of this organization and then he established an association – Supporting Social Development in Afghanistan – which bring together people from social services NGOs, governmental agencies and community initiatives to work for change in Afghan society. The doctrine of this association is to raise awareness, especially self-awareness among the people to recognize their potentials and develop them.

Dr. Navy has more than 12 years experience working with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), international organizations, donors and Government sectors. Dr. Navy specializes in TB and HIV/AIDS, private and public partnerships, community based program development and primary health care including health education, water and sanitation and agriculture. She also has experience in the project development, management, coordination, human resource development and training, and education training material development, as well as involved in policy development and implementation. With the Sihanouk Hospital Center of HOPE, she developed a care and management of HIV/AIDS model. With the Danish Red Cross, she joined with the technical advisor to develop a Primary Health Care Program document describing objectives, outcomes and activities for a PHC Program covering a period of three years. Dr. Navy is currently the TB Program Manager- with the University Research Co., LLC, USAID Health Systems Strengthening in Cambodia (USAID-HSSC). With the USAID-HSSC, she has developed strategic and operational strategies for the USAID funded Health Systems Strengthening project in Cambodia in the areas of TB and TB/HIV. She is the founder of the project AID Khmer (PAK). During her Humphrey Fellowship, she will focus her efforts on health policy, program and management and international health policy in order to effectively provide strategic leadership and vision, technical direction to operational units for the regional project in carrying out the stated mission of the organization and donors. Dr. Navy was trained as a medical doctor and a gynecologist/obstetrician in Thai Binh Medical College, Vietnam. She also was trained in AIDS epidemiology and HIV research at International Health Institute, Brown University School of Medicine, Rhode Island, USA. Her native language is Khmer and she speaks good English and Vietnamese. She has worked in Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos.

Working with Salvadoran Security Health Institute, Dr. Eugenia Machon de Figueroa develops two types of job. The first one is to be a facilitator for the Family Medicine Educational Program. This job focuses on training general doctors and volunteers to practice de Family Medicine in everyday activity. Workshops and lectures are provided. Dr. Machon de Figueroa is in charge of planning, and developing the workshops and the lectures by using power point presentations. The second one is to be a Family Physician attending patients in the clinic, but also doing home visits. This activity runs from Monday through Friday, and from 7 am to 5 pm. During the period with the Humphrey Fellowship, Dr. Machon de Figueroa is interested on acquire new tools on Health Education systems and leadership with other health workers and volunteers, in order to apply these skills for the benefit of her country. Dr. Machon de Figueroa won an award granted by the Institution she actually works with. She was nominated as the Doctor of the year, because of her relationship with the community issues and involvement.

Technical Areas – Policy Planning and Development for NCD Prevention and Control in India ,  Communicating for Health seeking behavior, Campaigning for Health Promotion,  Management of Health Care Delivery System, Capacity building of health care professionals

Through India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Atul Tiwary directs the policy planning and development of National Non-Communicable Disease Control Programs aimed at prevention and control of cancer,  diabetes, cardiovascular diseases , stroke and mental health with the emphasis on reducing risky behavior and  promoting health to improve the quality of health care in the country. During his year with the Humphrey fellowship, he will focus on evidence-based practices in health promotion and capacity building of health care professionals in this field. Dr. Tiwary has a Post Graduate Diploma in Child health after his Medical Graduation from Patna Medical College, Patna, India

At the Military Hospital of Antananarivo, Madagascar, Mr. Julien Herizaka Nirina is in charge of hospital operations including human resources, logistics, finance and information systems. He majored in Information Technology and has a master’s degree in business administration from Madagascar. During his year with the Humphrey Fellowship, he will improve his skills in health care organization and management and international health and development.

Ms. Thomas has been working in the Ministry of Health, ensuring the coordination of all training activities related to HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria  She  was responsible for ensuring proper planning of trainings for health professionals and community volunteers in collaboration with international organizations such as I-TECH. During her Humphrey year she will focus on improving her knowledge and skills on Planning of Health Education Programs and Monitoring and Evaluation of Health Education and Communication programs. Ms. Thomas has a Bachelors degree in Nursing Education as well as diplomas in Midwifery and Nursing from the Windhoek Nursing School and University of Namibia.

Dr. Otayza runs a 200-bed medical center of the Philippines' Department of Health in the northern Philippines and helps in the implementation of public health programs of the region as well. She intends to broaden her grasp on issues that affect health service delivery in her country particularly disaster preparedness, HIV/AIDS, reproductive health care (maternal and child health) and health human resource migration during her year with the Humphrey Fellowship Program. She has a Masters degree in Hospital Administration from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business and is a perinatologist trained in the University of the Philippines Philippine General Hospital.

Dr. Turay is the medical director of the Holy Spirit Catholic Hospital, Makeni. He was seconded to the catholic mission by the ministry of Health and Sanitation to manage and coordinate all health related activities within this hospital and clinics owned by the mission. During his Humphrey Fellowship, he will focus on public health policy and management together with coordination of HIV/AIDS projects. Dr. Turay holds a degree in general medicine {MD},from the Kuban State Academy, Krasnador, Russian Federation and a bachelor’s degree {BSc Chem}from the university of Sierra Leone.
