| Pierre Buekens, MD, PhD | Dear Friends,
As public health research expands ever farther across our globe, so too have our ways of sharing information grown. Take this issue of Global Health, for example. You may have received a copy of it at your home or place of work. You may have picked up a copy of it at the 137TH Annual Meeting and Exposition of the American Public Health Association. Or, for the first time, you may be accessing it through Global Health News, an eNewsletter launched this fall in conjunction with the printed version of the magazine. | Through Global Health News we hope to reach more of our alumni than ever before. Tulane public health graduates from around the world will now have better, more complete access to news about Tulane research, fellow alumni in public health practice, and school activities. Global Health News will also be one of the ways we can keep you up to date on plans for the school’s 100th anniversary in 2012.
Centennial 2012 will be a homecoming of sorts for the school’s alumni both near and far. We invite you to “save the date” for November 9 - 11, 2012, and plan to be in New Orleans for all of the events. More details will be released over the coming months via eNews, Facebook, and Twitter, as well as in these pages and on our website.
We are also celebrating a couple of other anniversaries as two of our distinguished faculty and administrators mark 40 years at this institution. Dr. Ann Anderson, senior associate dean for academic affairs and professor of environmental health sciences, and Dr. Frances Mather, director for academic information systems and professor of biostatistics, have set the gold standard for expert service to Tulane’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and we congratulate them on their achievement. Please look for articles highlighting their careers and accomplishments in our next issue.
