Our Mission

The mission of the Tulane Office of Global Health is to create new educational and research opportunities in global health for Tulane students, as well as to foster interdisciplinary, collaborative research opportunities for faculty.

This mission is accomplished by providing the following opportunities for graduate students, undergraduate students, and faculty:

  • New educational and research opportunities for Tulane students in global health. Via a global health certificate program for graduate students, new opportunities for students include: a new interdisciplinary course on global health; a seminar series on interdisciplinary perspectives on global health; mentorships from faculty experienced in global health; and training/research internships on global health topics.
  • new interdisciplinary global health TIDES course to foster interest in the topic. The TIDES course reinforces activities associated with the "Community and Global Health" major in the Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree program.
  • A seed grant program for participating faculty to initiate involvement in peer-reviewed research projects.
  • Funding opportunities for faculty to attend an annual immersion workshop in Lima, Peru on global health research in developing countries.

The Office of Global Health is generously supported by funding from the Framework Programs for Global Health of the NIH/Fogarty International Center, the purpose of which is to build global health research capacity in the United States and in low- and middle-income countries.
