| | | | Interactive Internship Placement System The Office of Global Health plans develop a web-based system to facilitate internship placements, which will include listings of international fellowships, employment opportunities, and other funding opportunities for global health work. This wiki site will include information regarding specific international collaborators and regional offices of Tulane who have agreed to assist with student internship placements in the program. As students in the global health certificate program begin preparing for their summer overseas practicum experiences, they will be able to submit queries electronically to the Office of Global Health for assistance in obtaining a match for internship opportunities. The Office of Global Health will organize interviews of applicants by potential preceptors, using Skype for voice and image. Clearinghouse of Online Resources from Framework Partners The Office of Global Health will maintain an expanded list of online resources from all Framework partners, to include publications, reports, PowerPoint presentations, and research protocols. The public documents will be posted on the website, and documents intended for limited circulation will be posted on a password-protected website accessible to registered affiliates of the Framework program. | | | | Distance Learning Course on Implementation Science The Office of Global Health is in the process of developing a five-hour, online asynchronous course on implementation science. The proposed curriculum will consist of the following modules and will include pre- and post-tests: 1) an introduction to the multiple disciplines involved in implementation science; 2) systematic reviews: the Cochrane collaboration; 3) developing guidelines based on the evidence; 4) behavioral interventions to implement guidelines; and 5) evaluation of the effectiveness of implementation interventions. The course will be made part of the curriculum of the global health certificate program and will be taught in collaboration with Drs. Fernando Althabe and Jose Belizan, faculty at the Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy (IECS) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a Framework collaborating partner. | | | | Scientific and Grant Writing Workshop A scientific and grant writing workshop for faculty, pre-/post-doctoral students, and graduate students, as well as international collaborators interested in attending, will be developed and implemented once a year on the Tulane campus. The goal of the workshop is to facilitate sharing of information about scientific and grant writing that focuses on global health issues and to provide a workspace, with mentors available, in which faculty and graduate/doctoral students can begin utilizing the skills they gain, such as hands-on experience in navigating through NIH funding announcements or working on specific components of an article with more experienced colleagues. Participants will have the opportunity to put to practice some of the skills they learn, as well as obtain feedback from workshop organizers and/or other participants. Topics will include: writing proposals for global health research; learning to navigate through NIH funding announcements; seeking funding organizations for global health research; issues regarding conducting global health research outside of the U.S.; ethics issues in global health; IRB processes in international work; and writing for peer-reviewed publications on global health. |
