Programs and Degrees The Department of Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) strives to equip students with the knowledge and skills to accomplish the following: - Apply scientific principles in toxicology, industrial hygiene, global environmental health (resource management and environmental health in developing countries), policy, oncology, and disaster management to prevent, detect and mitigate environmental public health problems and threats locally and globally
- Conduct research for innovative solutions to environmental health issues
- Investigate and monitor environmental hazards and community health status resulting from exposures to hazardous substances
The Department provides students the fundamentals needed to assume leadership roles as environmental health professionals in research and practice. The Department offers both masters and doctoral degrees. At the master's level, both the MPH and MSPH degrees are offered. The MPH focuses on policy and management aspects of environmental health while the MSPH is geared to the technical aspects of environmental health sciences. The PHD is an academic degree that provides in-depth study into a specific environmental health topic. Master's Programs Master of Public Health (MPH)

Specialty coursework is available in Toxicology and Risk Assessment, and Global Environmental Health Sciences. Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) with specialty coursework in Industrial Hygiene is also offered. Doctoral Program Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Specialty coursework is available in Toxicology and Risk Assessment, Industrial Hygiene, Global Environmental Health, Environmental Oncology (offered at the doctoral level only), Environmental Health Policy, and Public Health Disaster Management. Combined Degrees In addition, the Department of Environmental Health Sciences offers combined degrees with the School of Medicine (MD/MPH) and the School of Law (JD/MPH and JD/MSPH) as well as with the School of Social Work (MSW/MPH) so that students may earn a public health degree in combination with their other professional degree. The Department of Environmental Health Sciences also offers a Masters Internationalist Program in conjunction with the Peace Corps Program. Undergraduate Degree The Department also offers the environmental health focus in the undergraduate BSPH program. Special Programs Students who show exceptional ability may be eligible for the 4+ 1 combined BS/MPH or BS/MSPH degrees. Continuing Education Online Distance Learning The Center for Applied Environmental Public Health delivers MPH programs for mid-career professionals by distance learning with specialty course work in: Occupational Health and Safety Management, Occupational and Environmental Health, and Disaster Management. The Center also offers the MSPH with specialty coursework in Industrial Hygiene.
