Personal Statement:
Margarita Echeverri is a specialist in applying information technology for social development and has expertise on evaluation of project impact, education instructional design, online training, curriculum design, project management, and information systems.
As coordinator of the master of information management at the University of Maryland, she contributed to redesigning the Team Experience and Capstone projects, to implementing two new concentrations, and to developing new courses.
At the Inter-american Development Bank, Dr. Echeverri introduced virtual education in the INDES. She led the transformation of the face-to-face course “Design and Management of Social Politics and Programs” into a computer and web-based course, extending the coverage of trainees to Latin America and the Caribbean. Four years later, after evacuating New Orleans due to Katrina, she returned to the IDB to evaluate the quality and impact of two new virtual courses implemented by the INDES in policies and programs for social development
In her position as research assistant professor at Tulane, Dr. Echeverri is responsible for generating a research-driven framework for embedding cultural competency across curricula and degree programs for Xavier and Tulane universities’ pharmaceutical and medical schools. This work also involves instructional design and implementation of online training. Additionally, Dr. Echeverri oversees evaluations of grants related to research on community development, environmental health, cultural competences, and health disparities.
