The Department of Environmental Health Sciences addresses real risks posed by the environment worldwide. The department is supported by a diverse faculty engaged in multidisciplinary research and instruction – from the lab bench to the frontline trench. The department equips students with the knowledge and skills to apply scientific principles to toxicology, industrial hygiene, global environmental health, policy, oncology, and disaster management to prevent, detect, and mitigate environmental public health problems and threats locally and globally.

At the master’s level, five specialty areas provide students with the fundamentals needed to assume leadership roles as environmental health professionals in both research and practice. The doctoral program provides in-depth study into a specific environmental health topic.

The department is also a leader in distance learning, with top-quality programs designed for professionals in industrial hygiene, occupational and environmental health; occupational health and safety management; and disaster management.
