Maternal and Child Health Click here to learn more about the Maternal and Child Public Health Leadership Training Program
The Section of Maternal and Child Health has a particular focus on the social and environmental determinants of the health of women and children. The MCH section is also closely aligned with the Tulane/Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women's Health. In the MPH program we offer a general major in maternal and child health and tracks that focus more specifically on women’s health or child health. In addition, we offer dual majors in maternal and child health/health education, maternal and child health epidemiology, and global maternal and child health. Our courses give students a background in the biologic and social issues important to the health of women and children, as well as concepts and skills needed to address the broad range of public health problems affecting their health. If you major in maternal and child health, in addition to the school and department core course requirements (see master of public health), you will take courses in the following: Section core requirements: • Introduction to Issues in Obstetrics and Gynecology • Child Development and Public Health • Contemporary Issues in Maternal and Child Health
In addition, you must take an additional 11 credits of courses in a women's health track, child health track, or MCH generally (with the approval of your advisor). Course descriptions
