Students

Each year, about 40-50 students enter our MPH program. About 35-40 of those begin in the Fall semester and 10-15 begin in the Spring semester.

Students come to CHS from all backgrounds and all walks of life. Because of that, our students learn a lot from each other.

  • About 50% of our students are Caucasian, 30% are African-American, 12% are Asian, and 4% are Hispanic/Latino.
  • About 15% come from countries other than the U.S., including countries in Asia, Central America, Africa, and the Middle East. Over a 10-year period we have had students from 44 of the 50 U.S. states.
  • About 50% of students have undergraduate degrees in biologic sciences, health, or nutrition, 25% have undergraduate degrees in social sciences such as sociology, psychology, anthropology, or women’s studies, and the rest have majors ranging from communications to history.
  • About a third of students enter immediately after undergraduate school, two-thirds enter within five years of undergraduate school, and the rest come to Tulane after a career of longer than five years.
