Admissions How do I apply? You can apply online or you may request an application by calling 1-800-676-5389. You may also request an application and catalog online. Is there an application fee? If you apply online, the application fee is $95.00. I apply and am accepted, can I defer my enrollment? You can defer your enrollment, but you must contact the Office of Admissions and the Department of Community Health Sciences and let them know of your decision. If you do not let these two entities know of your decision, you will have to completely reapply the following year. What GRE scores are required? There are no specific requirements. However, admission is competitive and generally students have a combined verbal and quantitative score of 1000 or higher. How long will it take me to complete the master of public health (MPH)? The master of public health is a 45 credit degree. Students can finish the program within 18 months (3 semesters). What type of undergraduate degree do I need to apply for the Master of Public Health (MPH)? Our students come from a variety of educational backgrounds. You do not have to complete a certain degree to apply for the Master of Public Health. If you are applying to our Registered Dietician program, then you need to have a verification statement demonstrating completion of ADA-approved didactic program in dietetics. I have applied and would like to know the status of my application. Whom do I contact? You may contact the Office of Admissions 1-800-676-5389 or adminsph-i@tulane.edu and they will be able to tell you if it is under review in the Department of Community Health Sciences. Can I transfer any credits toward the master of public health (MPH)? The maximum number of credits which can be transferred in to a degree program at the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine is no more than 25 percent of the total required for the award of degree. Where are MPH graduates employed? Our students can be found in non-profit, for-profit, academic, community based agenices, and governmental agencies around the globe. In addition to having several international faculty members, our faculty conducts research and teached courses abroad. Our students come from around the globe. Just as you will encounter public health agencies anywhere you find people, communities are not limited by borders. Admission Deadlines Master of Public Health The Department of Community Health Sciences maintains a rolling admission policy for the Master of Public Health only. Housing Do you have any on campus housing options? Tulane University has one downtown housing option which is Deming Pavilion. You may contact the staff at Deming Pavilion at Deming@tulane.edu or 504-988-6275. This is located within walking distance of the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Financial Aid Does the Department of Community Health Sciences offer scholarships or assistantships to incoming students? There are a limited number of scholarships available through the Department of Community Health Sciences. There is not a separate application for the departmental scholarships as your application for admission to the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine is the application for departmental scholarships. You MUST meet the priority application deadlines. How do I apply for Financial Aid? Please see the following for financial aid. How much does it cost to attend? We do not offer any scholarships or federal funding to international students. Please refer to international student aid information.
General Do you offer any distance learning programs? The Department of Community Health Sciences does not offer any degree programs through distant learning. The School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine offers limited courses on line. Is it possible to attend part-time? Although it is possible to attend part-time, classes are generally held during day time hours. If you are trying to work full time and attend part time, then you would need to take off time during the day to attend class. Can I complete a master of public health (MPH) in the evening? Community Health Sciences courses are predominately taught during the day. We do have several late afternoon options, but a student would be required to take day courses to complete the MPH. What is the size of the Community Health Sciences department? How many students enroll each year? We have a total enrollment in the Department of Community Health Sciences of approximately 180 students. We admit between 40 and 50 new students each year to the MPH program.
