The dietetic internship is a graduate-level supervised practice program for students who would like to become registered dieticians. To be eligible for the internship, you must have both completed a bachelor's degree and have a verification letter from a nutrition department certifying that you have acquired the competencies required by the American Dietetic Association (ADA). Our Department does not offer all courses that may be required by the ADA to obtain this verification letter. Therefore, if you are interested in the internship but have not majored in nutrition in college, you will probably need to take additional undergraduate nutrition courses and should speak with the dietetic internship director, Marsha Piacun at di@tulane.edu.
The Dietetic Internship is a program with open admission and will accept from any other accredited university any student who has completed a bachelor's degree and has completed the DPD undergraduate curriculum requirements. Tulane University's dietetic internship is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association, 120 S. Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000 Chicago, IL 60606, (312)-899-0040 extension 5400.
The internship lasts 9 1/2 months and provides practical training and field experience in various community, clinical and administrative settings in the New Orleans area. The program accepts 16 interns per year. The internship begins in the Fall semester and is over in June. Interns must successfully complete all rotations to receive a verification statement and be eligible to take the ADA Registration Examination in Dietetics.
