Careers and Opportunities in Public Health

There are many different paths you can take with a degree in public health. Our alumni work in these types of jobs:

  • Health educator or program manager positions in governmental health agencies, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, state health departments, or local health departments.
  • Health educator, program coordinator, or director positions for nonprofit agencies working in public health. Like government agencies, nonprofit agencies exist at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Positions with health care providersnot only for graduates with MD or RN degrees, but also for persons without medical degrees where health care providers have a health promotion unit.
  • Research project coordinator positions, at either universities or freestanding research organizations.

You can learn of career opportunities in public health through a national website, by doing a Practicum experience in a public health agency, or by asking for help from faculty members.

Visit the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine Career Services to learn more about resources available to current students.
