One of our alumni has recently authored a book we thought might be of interest to our students and alumni. Dr. Paul Hooper (class of 2003, MPH in Occupational Health and Safety Management) has recently published WorkAbility Management: Managing Injured Workers to Minimize Disability. The book is available through a “print-on-demand” publisher and can be found on their website, www.lulu.com. A link can also be found at Dr. Hooper’s company website, www.workabilitymanagement.com.
As part of the course work for his MPH, Dr. Hooper’s capstone project focused on a similar theme, Developing a Training Class for Supervisors of Back-Injured Workers. The book is targeted towards human resources, safety personnel, workers’ compensation managers, case and claims managers, clinicians, and others who are interested in reducing medically unnecessary disability, which some estimate may be 50% of all those on work-related disability. Interest in managing disability after an on-the-job injury occurs is growing and Dr. Hooper’s new text provides a practical approach to address this problem. | |
