| Mission: The mission of the Occupational Health and Safety Management Program is to enhance the management skills of midcareer health and safety professionals to provide the abilities to advance into leadership positions within their organizations and industries. Description: The MPH degree program in Occupational Health and Safety Management is designed for midcareer professionals with a strong technical background who seek to augment their management abilities and increase their career options. The graduate will be able to apply budgeting and finance principles to environmental and health and safety programs, and be able to integrate these programs into standard management systems. Graduates improve their abilities to manage people, projects and processes. The program is offered by distance learning format. Program Competencies: At the completion of the MPH in Occupational Health and Safety Management, the graduates will be able to: - Apply and evaluate the role of the functions of planning, organizing, staffing, leading, controlling and evaluating health and safety programs. - Discuss and analyze the effect of managerial roles, styles, activities and decision‑making as well as the relationship between management and organizational effectiveness. (ENHS 7240; HSMG 6030)
- Demonstrate facility with various management responsibilities such as Total Quality Management (TQM), employee ownership, resource management, personnel evaluations, and goal setting. (ENHS 7230; ENHS 7240; ENHS 7280)
- Integrate skills in environmental and hazardous materials management, emergency planning and response, crisis communications, accident investigation, risk assessments, perception and communication. (ENHS 6430; ENHS 6710; ENHS 7220)
- Design a risk management plan considering economics and risk/benefit analysis, comparative risk assessment, and laws and regulations pertaining to risk assessment (ENHS 7260; ENHS 7310).
- Demonstrate methods of systematically integrating health and safety programs into standard management systems used by organizations. (ENHS 7230; ENHS 7240)
- Integrate the leadership roles involved in strategic planning, project management, management of multi-disciplinary teams, and regulatory affairs management. (ENHS 7230; ENHS 7240; ENHS 7310)
- Direct activities in voluntary standards systems, professional ethics, labor relations, contracts and “selling” health and safety initiatives to all levels of the organization and the public. (ENHS 7240)
- Apply the business principles of budgeting and finance to health and safety programs. (ENHS 7260)
- Demonstrate knowledge and evaluation of leading occupational disease hazards, their assessment and control and integrate into a managerial perspective. (ENHS 7200)
- Demonstrate use of statistical methodology in the health and safety field (BIOS 6030; EPID 6030)
Graduation Requirements:
Students must earn a minimum of 42 hours of academic credit: of which School of Public health Core requirements make up 18 credits hours, OHSM program required courses make up 14 credits and OHSM elective courses make up 10 credits. In addition to the academic credit hours students must complete a Culminating Experience and a Practicum.

2. Master’s Comprehensive Examination. Practicum (0 credits) The Practicum is designed to demonstrate application of core public health knowledge in practice. Specific competencies for the Practicum may be found at this link: Practicum Requirement . Professionals working in an appropriate field of public health may be able to waive this requirement if they are able to meet certain conditions, which may be found here and practicum waiver form.

Electives may be selected from the industrial hygiene, disaster management or occupational and environmental health program courses. Admission Requirements - A baccalaureate degree from an accredited university or college with 40 or more semester hours in science, math or engineering.
- A preferred grade point average 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Three or more years of experience in health and safety, occupational or environmental health as documented by work history (resume) and stated in letters of recommendation
- Three letters of recommendations from individuals familiar with prior academic and/or professional performance
- A strong base of computer skills including the ability to use the Internet, to manipulate and organize computer-based files and email, to use MS Office applications (intermediate proficiency preferred), and to implement technical instructions and guidance for the appropriate
