In 2006, the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) increased its requirements for certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) to include at least 12 credit hours in industrial hygiene related coursework in addition to a bachelor's degree. To help practicing industrial hygienists meet these new requirements, Tulane University's School of Public Health offers a graduate certificate program in Industrial Hygiene designed for this purpose. The Tulane Graduate Certificate Program in Industrial Hygiene is offered in both the on-campus and distance learning formats. Tulane has been offering an ABET-accredited Master of Science (MSPH) program in Industrial Hygiene on-campus since 1982 and via distance learning since 1994.
